I decided I wanted a playing surface for my dining room so I quickly made this. My plan next weekend is to pick up a roll of grass surfacing from J&J's to finish off the surface. It's a simple 5/8" 4x8 cut into 2 36"x48" pieces. It's held together when laid down by 2 latches that make it into a solid single sheet. Obviously for playing the latches will be down and not up.
Just a nice 4x6 playing table that can be stowed away in a closet when not in use.
I'll post the playing surface portion of the build when I do it. You're simply the next meal for my carnosaur.Warhammer Fantasy Army: Tomb Kings, Lizardmen, Dwarfs 40K Army: Tyranids

Question... is Kai part of the terrain? An "unstable" hill?

He's a special terrain feature called a tidal wave. Once he goes off, whatever is knocked away is removed from play.

I decided to finish up my tabletop today. I went to J&J's and picked up a roll of the grass surfacing material and then went to HD to get some wallpaper adhesive. Other tools required were a couple paint brushes and a knife. This is definitely a two person job so I had my dad come over to assist.
First we cut a big piece to size.
Next we applied adhesive to both the particle board and the back of the surface material.
Then we carefully set out the surface material and rolled it out.
Next we flipped the whole thing over so that the edges could be wrapped and stapled.
You can see some fancy cutting and stapling was required around the latches. We ran low on material for the one piece so it didn't wrap all the way unfortunately. The roll we had was actually a little shy of the advertised length.
After letting the glue dry I flipped it back over and here is the finished surface.
And of course, a money shot. In case you were wondering, the movement trays slide very nicely over this surface.
Time will tell how hardy this surface will be. It's not incredibly easy to get the grass material off the vinyl but it's not incredibly difficult either. But for $30 I think it was worthwhile. I think if I'm just careful with it and store it with the playing surfaces in contact it should hold up fine aside from the edges. Total cost for this build was:
- (1) 4'x8'x5/8" particle board - $19
- (1) pair of latches - $4
- (1) roll of summer grass table surface - $28
- (1) tub of wallpaper adhesive - $5
Not too bad for a grand total of only $56. If you don't have the capability to make the cuts on the 4x8 you could probably add $3 or so for HD to do the cutting for you. You're simply the next meal for my carnosaur.Warhammer Fantasy Army: Tomb Kings, Lizardmen, Dwarfs 40K Army: Tyranids

Colin and I played a great game on it last week. We both had a first full scale battle with our new armies (Lizardmen and Wood Elves). I've got a picture in my phone I believe, I'll see if I can dig it up. I'm always up for a game if our schedules will mesh.
You can see where my sudden terrain building inspiration came from. Those craters don't make very good forests. You're simply the next meal for my carnosaur.Warhammer Fantasy Army: Tomb Kings, Lizardmen, Dwarfs 40K Army: Tyranids
