Here is the initial assembly of my first Stegadon. There is just a ridiculous number of pieces to this model.
This guy is being done up as an ancient stegadon with the Engine of the Gods. This is as far as I can take assembly right now if I want to be able to paint it with any ease. There are also 6 Skinks and a Skink Priest that go along with it, but I'll be doing them after the big guy is done. Next step is to mount the pieces so they can be basecoated and then painted.

Introducing: Barney
Here is the finished stegadon. This will be the easy part of this painting project. The howdah's are very detailed.

Looks awesome! How did you get that effect on the horns? I want to do something similar for my Forest Dragon.

I'd like to say it's an incredibly complex technique, but really it's just a bleached bone base and a devlan mud wash. The only key part is to make sure some wash pools in the areas where the bone would be darker so it looks more natural. This another option that I found on the games workshop site, it is part of an article on how to paint the stegadon from start to finish. Lizardmen : Stegadon Painting Stage-by-stage Warhammer Fantasy Armies: High Elves, Skaven, Orc & Goblin, Chaos Dwarf

The GW method looks nicer, but brad's method is great for its simplicity, and it still looks really great, and almost more natural to me.

My painting threads should probably be posted with a warning.
"Brad's motto is 'git 'er done'. If he can do something in 2 steps instead of 5, he will.".
I rely heavily on washes to make up for my mediocre painting ability (ask me how many pots of devlan mud I used on my TK army ). But since I'm just painting for something to do and because I hate not seeing my army painted, it works well for me. TripleDiamonds and Greenz are the serious painters. I'm just serious in that I have the most painted. You're simply the next meal for my carnosaur.Warhammer Fantasy Army: Tomb Kings, Lizardmen, Dwarfs 40K Army: Tyranids

Hard to believe I still have 6 skinks to do including a character to get this thing done! Here is the completed howdah with Engine of the Gods.
This has to be one of my favourite models to date. I love the stargate.

Everything still needs to be lacquered but it's finally finished! I decided that I liked the yellow skinks I made the best so I did these guys with the same colours. If I can get a unit of Saurus assembled and painted I think I'll have a 1000pt army soon.

I was getting worried just having this guy sitting on a shelf so figured it was time to make a protective case for him. It's not going to win any prizes for beauty but I think it will do a good job keeping the models from harm.
- (1) 7" x 6.75" x 3" upholstery foam
- (1) 7" x 6.75" x 0.5" foam
- long blade knife
- hot glue
Make sure that the knife is about twice the length of the depth of the foam to ensure you can cut relatively cleanly. Also make sure you look straight down over your cut to make it as vertical as possible. I just sort of hacked out the portion for the skinks, wasn't too concerned with an exact fit, just wanted to make sure they all got in there.
I'd recommend the upholstery foam because it's dense and will hold it's shape without compressing too much. You're simply the next meal for my carnosaur.Warhammer Fantasy Army: Tomb Kings, Lizardmen, Dwarfs 40K Army: Tyranids
