Ok, so after our discussion on monday it sounds like there are a bunch of people interested in playing in the MOD Campaign 1 : Tides of Power.  This is the thread that we will discuss all things to do with this campaign.  First things first... the following is a links are for the campaign rules and a sheet you can fill out for orders.

Rules: http://www.centretown.ca/images/Documents/mec1-2.pdf

Turn Orders Sheet: http://www.centretown.ca/images/Documents/ordersheet02.doc

Order sheets will be submitted to the GM in PDF format.  If you need a PDF printer, you can download CutePDF for free.

For this campaign we will need a Games Master, which Craig has offered to do for us.  I will play in the campaign and will be the backup GM.

What we are asking is to see who is interested in playing in this campaign, if so send a pm to myself or Brad and we will add you to the list.  The second thing we will ask is that you read the entire ruleset before Jan 4th 2010.

The other thing that we will ask is that when we start the campaign we give it a chance, and give all the players a chance to iron out the wrinkles in the new system.  When we last attempted to play a campaign, I think that everyone was focussing on things that seemed to make it "unfair" for them. However I think in hindsight, had we given it more of a chance, it would have all ended up being a fun game that everyone enjoyed.  So if we can just give this ruleset a good honest try I think it will be a ton of fun.

If you have any questions just let me know and we will try and get answers ASAP.

ok here are a couple items of interest from last nights campaign kickoff.
  1. It was noted after some of you left, that each army must have a LORD level character in their list.
  2. We are NOT using named characters for this campaign.
  3. The Lord has to be in one of your banners, and you ignore the fact that the lord character would violate proper army composition rules.  This is a special character that has to be included, but remember you still have to pay the points for this character.
  4. The remaining points of the banner that your lord is in, must be used to build an army list that meets the requirements of a properly constructed list.  So for most people, that would mean that you would be required to have 2+ core units in that banner to accompany the lord.
  5. All your banner orders and tile edicts must be submitted to Craig no later than the saturday @ 4pm of the current gaming week.
  6. Craig's personal email address is in your private in box on this site.  Please do not post his email address, we don't want spam bots to pick it up and flood his account.
  7. Please provide your banner/tile orders/edicts in pdf form.  The software recommended by Brad is cutepdf and can be found here.
  8. If you have any questions that you do not mind the public seeing, please post them to this thread.  Otherwise send a pm to Craig and he will get back to you ASAP.

Are we actually breaking down each banner by the unit type ie) spearman qty 5 with command...or is it just "special" and x amount of points on the first section in the word doc? Please bear with me with the orders form and what on it needs to be filled out and how...i happen to feel a little dumb right now asking this

Matt don't worry we are ironing out all these things as well. I would say that you write down in the word doc the number of special and all those kinds of things. You have to write down the value of each banner. Then I would say that you should use the army spreadsheet that is also found as a sticky I believe in this forum, and create the entire army list for each of the banners. That includes the number of each type, points costs, and stat lines. Please do not leave anything out, as this will help to make sure Craig has everything he needs to "enforce" the rules for the campaign.

something else to note, once you build your banners I am not sure that they change unless you lose points or lose support or gain support etc. So basically what you choose stays in the banner, or can swap between banners. Can someone else read that section of the document again and tell me what you think? Would also like to hear from Craig about it.

Matt, I think that the main orders document only lists the entitlements that you get, so that would be why there is no core column. My take on it is that you fill out the entitlements that you would be getting. So for you I think it would be 1 Lord, 1 Hero, 1 Special and 1 Rare for the capital, and then 1 Hero from the town.

You can move units between banners and change unit sizes and whatnot so they really aren't static lists (changing sizes I believe is dependent upon changes in your total support though).  You can also move the entitlements (special, rare, extra heroes) between banners as well.  Page 12 details what you can and can't do.

The only thing that has to remain the same is your characters. You can't swap one character for another type for example as they evolve through the campaign (so I couldn't swap a Master Engineer for a Thane for example). You CAN change how a character is kitted out from battle to battle however, so you're not stuck with the same magic items.

Matt,
Although you have support from three tiles, you still only get 2 armies(banners). You can divide the points you have this turn between the two banners any way you please, but the minimum in each banner has to be 500 and a banner can not exceed 2500 I believe. You can only get a third banner when you have at least one banner with 2000 points in it, so I suspect we won't see 3 banners for anyone for a couple turns.

Example Orders Sheet

OK I've gone through and made up a sample orders sheet for a ficticious Dwarf turn 1.  The armies and points values I just invented so I'm quite sure they don't add up, they're just an example.

Basically I started by listing my hexes and what they contained.  I issued several edicts having my capital perform Civilization and my other hexes perform Industry to get more power points.  The entitlements column summarizes what the features contained within each hex allows you to use in your armies.  Since I have only a capital, I listed the 1 lord, hero, special and rare entitlements.  I then listed the total support for each hex (base of 250, capital gives me another 500).

I'm not doing any looting and there are no mercenaries this turn so nothing to do there.

The next table simply summarizes your total support for this turn as you would give the sizes of your armies for the turn, adding in whatever you acquired through mercenaries and looting and whatnot.  This number will be the total points you use to create your army lists.

You will then issue the orders for your army, indicating which entitlements will be allocated to which army.

This is an example as I said (you start with 0 power) but I put in a power expenditure to build a mine.  You can't actually do this turn 1.

The last step before your army lists is to summarize your industry and generate your total power for the next turn.  Should be fairly straight-forward I think, just add it all up and put it in the appropriate column.

The final step is to put a summary of your armies.  Since these documents will be posted, do not put the individual points cost of items, just the total cost of a unit or character.  This is a summary so the GM and opponents can see that your army is legit.  You will probably want to create a spreadsheet for your actual list for game play.

Hopefully I've interpreted everything correctly, it wouldn't surprise me if I hadn't but hopefully this clears some things up!

Is it assumed that we've all already "patrolled" to get the extra two hexes from the capital? In Brad's made up scenario he has industry....how did he acquire "industry" in one of his hexes off the start?  If this makes sense: do we only have to fill out the Kingdom section and the 2 of 3 army lists on the print out.  Are we supposed to know our power expenditures?

Matt to aquire Power we have to actually do something in the campaign. The end of the first turn power will come available to players and you will be able to use it in your next orders sheet.

ok so just to clarify on the week that orders are due, each player is required to have their turn orders and banner lists emailed to Craig by no later than Thursday night. Then from there Craig will provide us with the results on Friday. Then each player must respond no later than Sunday night at 7pm for each battle or action that is required. This will allow everyone enough time to figure out what they are doing on the following Monday night.
